The exhibition, curated by exhibition maker Rik Herder, offers a dynamic mix of objects, videos, art and personal stories divided into six themes: body, mind, fight, community, resistance and beauty. Visitors are invited to participate themselves, where they can punch, kick and mimic movements of grand masters throughout the exhibition.

For millions of people worldwide, martial arts are an essential aspect of their lives. Practicing martial arts is not only about external struggle, but more importantly about inner growth and balance between body and mind. Transcending personal boundaries prepares practitioners for life's challenges.

The exhibition also highlights the deep connection between martial arts and spirituality. Religious and philosophical influences are prominent in many traditions, such as Hinduism in kalaripayattu and Buddhism in Chinese kung fu. In addition, the aesthetic value of martial arts is celebrated, with a special focus on the choreography of fights in film and media, starring Bruce Lee.

"Martial Arts" takes visitors on a fascinating journey through 15 different martial arts, from boxing to zurkhaneh wrestling. Through interactive displays, unique objects and contemporary art, visitors gain an in-depth understanding of the various traditions and their impact on individuals and communities.
