Formerly known as the Kalvertoren and now the Kalverpassage, the recently renovated shopping arcade between Kalverstraat and Heiligeweg will become "a major shopping destination in the Dutch capital, where shopping becomes a complete experience," said Kroonenberg Group project developer Lesley Bamberger, who was also responsible for revitalizing ailing shopping areas such as Gelderlandplein and Osdorpplein.

With a carefully selected lineup of local and international fashion stores, restaurants and stores surrounding a central atrium spread over two floors, it's hard not to be impressed. When you look at the floor you see modern art; the entrance has a Trianguular Gris, an artwork with 364 colors controlled by an app. It was created by Sigrid Calon, a renowned artist famous for her geometric style that combines graphic art with hypnotic patterns. Calon was also responsible for the design of the Uniqlo store on 5th Avenue in New York and has collaborated with Swatch, among others. Artworks by other big names, such as Ai Weiwei, Maarten Baas and Ichwan Noor, are also on permanent display at Kalverpassage.
Retail Therapy
The old calvert tower had many (too) small stores, the new calvert passage has chosen a spatial layout so there are fewer different retailers but therefore you have a better shopping experience.

Eating in the Kalverpassage
Speaking of food, you can't just go to the HEMA for a snack. Forget fast food, at the Kalverpassage is good food the name of the game. Named for its location between the busy Kalverstraat and the popular Flower Market, Calf & Bloom is the kind of eatery where you can go for a cup of coffee but end up lingering over a meal on the sunny terrace overlooking the Singel. There are the usual lunchtime crowd favorites n like a club sandwich with chicken or salmon (made with really good bread from Bread by Menno) and various omelets, as well as hot dishes like flammkuchen and pasta. You can also get a children's menu here for the little ones. Or take the glass elevator, because hidden on the top floor, is one of Amsterdam's best-kept secrets, Café-Restaurant Blue, which combines 360-degree views of the city with an inviting brunch and lunch menu with real toppings like scrambled eggs with salmon and spinach, couscous salad, an impressive selection of freshly made sandwiches, various (vegetarian) burgers, as well as cocktails, craft beers and bar meals.
